Make A T-Shirt Quilt

Use for old but favorite kids t-shirts.

Do you have tons of your kids favorite t-shirts that are adorable but your kids can't wear them any more. You and them both love these sentimental items but they are taking over dressers and closets. What to do? Cut them up and make a homemade quilt. If the clothing has graphics or words on it, like sayings or pictures, cut around them in a square. When you have enough squares of the same size, sew them together. That will be the top of the quilt. Next add some batting under the quilt top, make sure you have about an inch of extra batting showing on each side of the quilt top. The last thing is to pick your fabric for the back of the quilt. You put the fabric under the batting, and will need about an inch of extra fabric showing on each side of the batting. Pin together the 3 layers securely before you start sewing. Fold the bottom fabric over the top, so it meets the edges of the quilt top. Sew together the two ends. The extra bottom fabric will create an edge to your quilt. Now you have a cute and sentimental quilt that you made yourself. You can also do this with your clothes or your spouses. And if you are anything like me, then you have lots of pajama pants that you absolutely love but are falling apart. That would be great for this project or even some old flannel shirts. Plus you will have a lot more room in your closets for more things. Just remember it doesn't have to be perfect and it is all about having a good time doing this.
